PolyU Yunnan Service-Learning and Exchange Tour
"Impacting Lives, Transforming Lives" — PolyU Yunnan Service-Learning and Exchange Tour
The United Chinese Enterprise Social Responsibility (UCESR) Charity Foundation, together with members of the PolyU Foundation, embarked on a four-day service-learning and exchange tour (May 13–16) to Malipo, Yunnan.
Upon arriving in Kunming, the foundation team immediately met with representatives from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Yunnan Province and the Yunnan Provincial Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. Through in-depth communication at the official level, we gained a more comprehensive understanding of local development needs.
The departments from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University participating in this service-learning project included the Department of Chinese History and Culture, the School of Optometry, the School of Nursing, the School of Fashion and Textiles, the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, the Department of Computing, and the School of Accounting and Finance.
The entire service delegation was composed of members from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Yunnan University, and Yunnan Minzu University, comprising approximately 500 students in total, with around 4,000 beneficiaries.
In response to the practical environment and needs of local residents and students, the students meticulously designed the service content to ensure that every project was tailored to local conditions and delivered genuine impact. Some projects have been implemented continuously for three years, with ongoing evaluation, optimization, and improvement during each year's practice—truly transforming classroom learning into concrete actions that address societal needs.
What was even more touching was the genuine and beautiful interactions established between the students and the local elderly and children. The warm hospitality and heartfelt responses from the villagers deeply inspired everyone, reinforcing their belief in the profound meaning of this work. Many expressed their support and anticipation for the service-learning projects, hoping that this care and companionship would continue to bring hope to more corners.
